Dr. Kim McNair is the Chief Executive Officer and Global Event Strategist & Certified Event Planner for Kim McNair Productions, LLC, the Executive Producer for the television program, “Women on the MOVE Live!”, which she hosts and the founder of the Business Women Empowerment Project a 501(c)3 organization.
Kim started her event planning company, in 1991 in Orlando, Fl. But her career as a business professional began before that in New York City and New Jersey.
Kim started modeling at the age of 14 and as she progressed, the Grace Del Marco agency hired her as a fashion model. Grace Del Marco was helmed by Ophelia DeVore and launched the careers of Cicely Tyson, Richard Roundtree, and paved the way for actress Diahann Carroll plus many others as the first agency to represent people of color in the industry.
Kim learned the importance of presentation during her years on the runways. She incorporated that first-hand knowledge into a business when she moved from the Northeast to Florida, retired from modeling and started her event planning business.
Her company thrived because she operated on themes of empowerment and collaboration. At first, she organized events centered around the profession she knew – modeling. Her contributions to the annual Black Expo became highly anticipated showcases because she staged New York level fashion pageants for the audiences. It was during one of those expos that she met Lucille O’ Neal and her, soon-to-be- famous son, Shaquille O’Neal (Shaq). They took a chance on the budding entrepreneur and formed a business relationship that has lasted over twenty years.
In 2007, McNair relocated to Atlanta, GA and expanded the KMP brand. She offered more services and developed a successful track record for producing special events while increasing her marketing and public relations skills. Her first chance to showcase those skills came from an event for the City of Lovejoy. She made the occasion such an outstanding success that the city awarded her a contract for special events, in 2009-2010. That started a string of impressive special event accomplishments for KMP celebrity clients, non-profit organizations and local governments.
In 2013, Kim established an annual conference connecting women who are entrepreneurs, small business owners, CEOs, executives and community leaders. She called the gathering the “Women on the MOVE Summit.” 2019 marks its sixth year. This year’s theme urges participants to: Collaborate. Connect and Create to build empires.”
The success of the summits motivated Kim to expand into a new arena in 2015. She produced a television program called “WOMEN ON THE MOVE, LIVE!” It began airing on AIB-TV (Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasting), then expanded to ION-TV and WATC-TV Atlanta 57. Past episodes of the program can be viewed on www.womenonthemovetv.com.
Giving back to the community has always been an important part of Kim McNair’s life. She started a youth group for teenage girls called TEEN GIRLS ROCK, that allowed them to learn coding from Microsoft professionals and also brought them together at BELK Dept. Store with “Clinque” to learn how to take care of their skin and apply make up in a separate event.
Kim’s life is like that of many female business professionals and her personal trials led her to establish the non-profit called Business Women Empowerment Project, Inc. (B.W.E.P.) in 2015. The organization’s mission is to empower business women to find access to resources. BWEP’s vision is to
inspire a generation of business women leaders. BWEP 2020 is a Leadership program for High School Girls only ages 16-18. Our vision is to help develop a program for high school girls that may not have a path or clear direction on where and/or what to do after they graduate HS. This M.O.G.U.L. training session has four pillars and will help develop leadership skills, entrepreneur skills, life skills and money management.
Kim McNair Productions, LLC is a certified small local business Enterprise SLBE and Minority Women Business Enterprise MWBE certifications. She has a certificate of non-profit organizational management from the Georgia Center for Non-Profits, sponsored by Wells Fargo.
Attended Clayton State University, she received the Honorary Doctorate of Christian Humanities from the School of Great Commission Theological Seminary, Columbia, South Carolina, Sept 15, 2018.
